wooty, pc build complete.

finally the parts arrived today, took me about 2-3 hours to put together and install vista/drivers. but i came across a little problem, i cannot get the sound card to work, the sound card came with the motherboard (see sig) and no matter what port i put the speaker plugs in i get no sound. I installed the drivers for it and read the manual and still no luck.. anyone have any advice?wooty, pc build complete.
Search on-line for driver updates. I had the same problem with on board sound when I added a 2nd H.D.D. for Vista.wooty, pc build complete.
found a driver update on the ASUS site, installing now...
yay, it works, thanks for the help :D
I hope my rig will be completed soon as well :(

i know how you feel, i was waiting at least 4 months to build a new computer, old one broke beyond repair.
yay, it works, thanks for the help :D
Its probably because you had 64 bit windows...i had to find drivers when i built mine aswell!
I had to update even with 32 bit Vista. Sound issues always seem to plague me it even happened with 32 bit XP. This is a minor issue that is well worth it when building your own rig. Glad you have everything running.8)
i have another question, the NB and SB on my mobo is running really hot, at about 50 degrees C at load (SB) and abput 45-50 for the NB, is this normal for the maximus?
That sounds about normal for any mobo with standard cooling on the NB and SB.
Yeah most for ASUS boards this is normal. I woul dsay that you re-apply the thermal paste for mosfets, NS and SB because sometimes in ASUS boards its very thick and this will kill your mobo later

Speaking of Vista and sound problems, I remember when Auzentech's latest Prelude driver at the time(the one just before the release with Dolby Digital Live! support)didn't install my sound card properly. I was pretty pissed, only to find a link to DDL-enabled beta drivers on another forum that actually worked! (Shortly after that, Auzentech posted the final DDL-enabled drivers on their site, which also worked fine. Oh, and I'm using it with analog speakers, so it wasn't the DDL feature that fixed everything as much as it was some other fix in the drivers.)

Reminiscing aside, that's a respectable setup(despite the 6600 GT). I hope it brings many great hours of gaming to you(though you'll probably need that HD 3870 first).

na, i need a monitor first, what good is an awesome video card if you dont have the right monitor to play it on? using an old 17 inch CRT monitor. then after that im getting the video card.

But will that graphics card be enough if you go out and buy a 30'' 2560x1600 display, expecting to play your games at that resolution? It certainly won't be for Crysis(which struggles on my system that's tweaked with a High+Very High mishmash whem bumped up to just 1280x1024!).

I'm actually using my new PC with an old shadow mask CRT, and it works fine for the most part. (There is a fault in the end of the VGA cable, though, where the screen shows discoloration if the cable is not bent in a certain direction.)

Oh, and why are you upgrading to a mere E6600? It doesn't seem like a major upgrade-you'd be better served by upgrading to a E8x00 or Q9x00 chip(both series are 45nm Penryn)when they release, provided that your mobo will accomodate them(which I think it will).

its not going to be a 30 inch, its going to be a 20 inch, and i havnt updated my upgrades list in a while. that was back when 45nm processors wernt out yet. Ill update it right now.
i have one more question, whats a good way to stress test your CPU to see if its stable? I just got done overclocking and i think i hit the sweet spot.
prime95--like he mentioned--for 8 hours or more will do the trick. during the stress test, your CPU usage will be at 100% throughout so don't freak out. just make sure that your CPU temperature/s stabilize to an acceptable temperature so you don't ruin the chip.
ok, thanks for the info, but right now its only running at 50%..
