Power Supply choices.

I did a search but it looks like most of the posts were a year or older.....looking into a decent unit without breaking the bank...Im not an avid online gamer....just a flight sim and thinking about COD4...I scored a new BFG GeForce 8600 GT OC ThermoIntelligence Video Card - 512MB GDDR3 off ebay rather cheap....under $150 and Im looking for choices on a PSU.TYPower Supply choices.
What is your current PSU and system specs?Power Supply choices.
the current PSU is a stock 300w that came with the HP Pavilion a1600n,heres a link.http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c00749157%26cc=us%26dlc=en%26lc=en%26jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN#N299also going to up the ram to 3g's
Well, you won't need more than a 450w, so you should be fine with anything really. I have an OCZ Gamexstream 600w, and I love it, it is the best psu I have ever had. If OCZ makes a 450w, I would suggest that.

My suggestion is this:http://www.idealcomputing.co.uk/products.asp?partno=13713267 (sorry UK link)Its an Antec Earthwatts 500W PSU I highly reccomend it as i use it myself, it should be easily enough to power your system.
its a good powersupply don't get me wrong but way better quality ?? you got to be kidding me earthwatts is one of the best you can get
Ultra V Series 500W ATX hows the Ultra series?
its a good powersupply don't get me wrong but way better quality ?? you got to be kidding me earthwatts is one of the best you can get
Well ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but the 550VX has more 12v rail power(Earthwatts is a bit weak in that area), and if Jonnyguru is right(and he usually is right about these things) the 550VX is a bit more efficient and is better behaved ripple-wise. Both are better than the Gamexstream, which has out of spec ripple at high loads. The Ultra series can be a bit of a hit and miss. Do your research with the model you're looking at with Ultras.
The PCP%26C Silencer 610 should give you plenty of rock-solid power to spare for only 120 US$ sans shipping. And, judging from my personal experience, it seems to live up to the ''Silencer'' label.

It's not modular, though, so you may want to seek out an alternative if you don't have extra room in your case to hide cables.
well being totally new to upgrading pc's I googled JonnyGURU and read the reviews on the Corsair PSU and I think I'm going with either the 450 or the 550....leaning towards the 550w. Both seem to be all out performers and will provide plenty of power for my application.....the 550 may be the better choice out of the 2 because I may upgrade more at another date but I know my PC has it's limits and may just stick with the 450w.TYVM for all whom helpedAC500
Antec 850 watt True Power Quattro PSU is the only psu worth buying for your card. ;)I'll sell you one for cheap!!!!!

Get the 520 watt because you may want to upgrade your video card in the future. Look at tigerdirect.com,buy.com,zipzoomfly.com as well as newegg.com for the cheapest price.
BTW: does it really matter what kind of PSU you buy?I found myself 1 of 650W for 50$ (Sweex PS040), don't care about noice and stuff that much since I have a Antec 900 under my desk :D doubt it can get any louder lolJust want to get some more juice since right now I have a cheap LC Power 420W PSU in my rigg and don't have any complaints butI think it won't be long before I need some more power
