Help with overclocking an ATI video card ...

I need some help, I'm new to this and I don't want to destroy any hardware whatsoever... I want to overclock my ATI radeon X1600 PRO 256MB PCI-E DVI, what software should I use? What's the best combination for me so I won't destroy anything in my PC and still get better performance? Help with overclocking an ATI video card ...
I'm just like you, I overclocked my ATI last night. It was all new to me, but it's cool. Some people like ATItool, but it hangs on my system, so I used rivatuner. Works great.Help with overclocking an ATI video card ...
Rivertuner!!!!! ATI tool is cool for teh n00bs. but either way ur frame gain from that card is gonna be rarely noticeable and plus the ATI card chipset is allrdy blazing hot.
So I just shouldn't overclock it?
So I just shouldn't overclock it?
All he's saying is that the card is pretty weak as it is and overclocking it isn't going to change that. At most, you'll see a few more fps. With the overclock is going to come more heat and increased risk of instability and failure. So that may or may not be worth it to you. If you're wanting more performance out of your video card, overclocking it is a very small bandaid that will slightly postpone the inevitable purchasing of a new card.

There's a lot of really good low/mid range cards out right now that would significantly improve your performance without breaking the bank.

Good choice. The 3870 is also a good card which is similarly priced. Looks to be about $50 more.
