Hello there,
My friend over here has Q6600 and hes looking to OC it for around 3.0~3.2Ghz now so hes looking to get agood CPU cooler. Hes going to buy one from here so he has only 2 options : Either to Thermalright Ulitma90 or Thermaltake V1
If i were him , i would go with v1 because its abit close to TT 120Ex from what i read at the past . But honestly Ultima90 also is really very good cooler and its even better than normal Ultra 120.
Both coolers here are selling for almost same price so dont consider about the price ONLY ther performance...!!
Thanks,TR Ultima90 vs TT V1 coolers...!!
I much prefer coolers without proprietary fans. If the fan on that V1 goes out, you need to buy a whole new cooler. You also can't pick a good fan with a balance of silence and performance if the stock fan doesn't suit your needs. And don't forget, the Ultima 90 can mount either a 92mm or 120mm fan. It will be the more expensive option though, since you'll need not only the cooler, but a fan as well. And I'd probably get some different thermal paste. Thermalright does some things very well indeed, but thermal paste isn't one of them.TR Ultima90 vs TT V1 coolers...!!
He already has MX-2 and Scythe S-flex fan whic hes going to use it either for the Ultima90 or for his case.
So both options are almost the same price. Correct me about this if im wrong about this :
Ultra120 Ex > Ultima90 > Ultra120 !!
the only thing that V1 has to be good competer that its almsot on aPar with the Ultra120 Ex if its fan is on High so having quiet system is hard now, rigth ?
The Ultra 120 is a better cooler than the Ultima 90. However, it weighs a hell of a lot more, and will stress his motherboard a lot more than the Ultima-90. So while the Ultra 120 would perform a bit better, I'd say the cons probably aren't worth it.And yes, I have a hard time believing that the fan on the V1 will perform better than an S-Flex fan.
Maybe you are right because i believe in your experience. But when i was reading reviews for my friend to help him out, many reviews are showing the Ultima90 is better than Ultra120 when using the same fan S-Flex and that made me hell shocked because the Ultima is even cheaper for 15$ in US also v1 was like hair behind Ultra120 ex but again when the fan is HIGH and it was like hell loud ~45dB so maybe i will be with you that it doesnt worth it probably.
My friend just phoned me saying that someone is offering to sell his Zerotherm Nirvana120 which has been used 1mth or less but the difference between this and others are almost none so he has 3 options now.
I always allow for a few degrees of variance - thermal paste application isn't always perfect, and it's hard to maintain a perfectly stable ambient temperature. The Zerotherm fan is a good one - and that's definitely a difficult decision. I'd still opt for having control over what type of fan I can use over a proprietary one though. The Zerotherm is one hell of a cooler though. I suppose it's up to your friend really - if he wants performance over expansion, noise, and lightweight design, the Zerotherm is easily the way to go (especially since he can put that S-Flex fan somewhere else in his case and improve airflow there). To me though, the difference of a few degrees between top coolers isn't important. Once you've got a range of excellent coolers like that, I'd rather look at features other than 2c lower temperatures under load.
Well, it seems that hes going with the Ultima90 and if he could find that Ultra120 hes going to that route. He doesnt want to sacrifice of having such quite cooler (TT ones) over 2c less using Zerotherm with hell noise fan.
And for the fan, he can easily get another one for around 15$ later so that isnt aproblem actually.
Now its my turn to ask couple question about my self :
1) Last time when i asekd about the x38 choices, you mentioned to the DFI LP so why is that ?? Is therey anything special iwth it comparing with Maximus Formula ??2) Im going to sell my other RaptorX because i already sold one and get 2 raptors (80gb) for the price of one and can get amass hdd for storage and i would save alot by having more storage, less cost and Raid0 for sure. But my question that the Raptors are 80gb from Dell OEM Parts, is this anew raptors over 74gb or what ??
Heres the link
** If they arent good enough where do you think i can get such 74 raptors for cheap price ?? At newegg the yare for 140$ so they arent worth it , do they?
1) DFI uses high-quality board components, and they also have one of the richest BIOSs out of any motherboard out there, meaning you can more finely tune your PC.2) WD has no listing for 80GB Raptors - my guess is they're improperly labeled 74GB drives. As for them being a good price, the ones on eBay do look like a great deal - but I prefer buying my parts new, and from reputable manufacturers. It costs a bit more, but the warranties are better. Personally, I don't really find 10k RPM drives to be worth it at all, especially with SSD's on the horizon.
So you mean DFI mobo is way better than Asus Maximus and its worth to get it over the second one ??
For the Drives, WD is making new 80gb of Raptors for both HP %26 Dell and they seems that new ones are better than old 74gb for very small difference.
Anyway, the performance wasnt my goal from the beginning. I just wanted to have 2 small raptors in raid0 instead of one of my RaptorX and i can sell the second and save the money in my pocket.
Way better? No. I just prefer DFI boards over ASUS ones, in general. You'll be happy with either board, and most likely won't even notice the difference.
thx for helping the family out (me and my friend) :)
Oh and for the mobos, i will try to find best offers for both and will see which one ii should get.
