before you start reading, know that I am mostly a console gamer, so I don't know much about these kind of things. Also, sorry for the long read. My previous router, a D-link, DIR-655 was working fine, everything was running smoothly both wired and wireless. Eventually my wi-fi stuff (iPhone, Wii, PSP) stopped working. I tried to get help, but all i got was ''Get a new router.''So I got a new router yesterday, the D-link DGL-4500, I installed it and thought everything would be fine now, but I was horribly wrong. At least now my wi-fi things can connect, but now it seems that my internet doesn't work...I can't even connect to messengers, what am I doing wrong? My comp is currently directly connected to my modem right now, and I'm about to try to install my old router again, with the antenna from my new one :Dthink that will work?i have bad luck with routers, help plz
help plzbumpi have bad luck with routers, help plz
It's highly unlikely that your antenna is the problem. I'd just put your computer in DMZ and see if that fixes it. If it does, you need to open some ports.First, click Start and go to Run. Type in cmd and hit enter. After the command prompt comes up, type in ipconfig. You want the number opposite 'IP Address'. Go to your routers configuration panel (there should be some software that came with it) and find the option called DMZ. Type that number in and enable it.
oh, thanks i'll go try it right now
>.< where do i find that dmz thing? my router disc came with network magic, where can i find that option?dammit i wanna throw my router out the window :(
Try typing in 192.168.0.1 into your browser address bar and that should get you to the router menu. Stock username is probably Admin and password should be blank (you should think about setting a password up when you get into router settings). Also, while your in router settings, set up some wireless security before you have everyone in the neighborhood riding your back for free internet and downloading pirated movies and getting you in trouble. (set up WPA encryption and a password probably under the wireless security tab and in network magic enable network lock)Edit: I've got linksHow to get to router settingsManual (wireless security settings help starts on page 64) This may helpHow to set up a passwordEdit Edit: Also enable Hide your SSID in network magic
