What video card are you overlocking? And if it's crashing, that's a sign that you can't go any further and that you probably need to tone it back a bit as well. Not everyone's card is made alike, you may have just gotten a dud for O/Cing.Can't overclock past
when i go over core clock 699 memory bus 993 mhz the game crashes. I was playing crysis it did this. i am using crysis because it is demanding. i am not a computer whiz. i have seen people pass this by quite a bit more on stock cooling.
that means you are in a unsafe mhz range and could kill your video card
sorry forgot to post its a 8800gt and i have a cooler master extreme 550 watt power supply
sorry forgot to post its a 8800gt and i have a cooler master extreme 550 watt power supply
Try stepping up your cooling method. Air cooling won't get you far. That memory timing you listed is absurd for OC'ing that card. It's 750 stock isn't it?
Think 700/1000 is a pretty average oc for those cards, mine got to it before I had to return it after the fan stopped working. You have to up the fan speed though, the default of 30% isn't even enough for stock clocks, set it to 70%+ when you oc, then test it with ATI tool, easiest way.
the default clock speed is 600 mhz and i have an antec 900 case with an added 120mm fan. The gpu temperature on the card is only about 50 degrees before it shuts off.
the 8800gt has such a slim heatsync if you wanted to oc'd should have went with a gtx or ultra. Though a 65nm chip they weren't really built for oc'ing.
