I have 2GB of RAM but Asus thought it would be a good idea to put Vista on a gaming laptop, and it eats more than a gig of it before I do anything, so I have a few questions about upgrading my RAM.
1) If I take it to PC World and get them to install another RAM chip, would I lose my warranty with Dixons even though a professional opened the case?
2) Will I need a better power supply to run more RAM (I suspect not, but I don't want my laptop to explode if I'm wrong)?
Thanks in advance.Upgrading RAM.
1) You should definitely check with your documentation on that in regards to ASUS's policies. Each company hes fairly different policies. I dont imagine there would be any problems though since RAM is one of the few things that can be upgraded on a laptop. Its not like you're actually opening up te system and replacing the screen, or something.
2) No you wont need to upgrade your power supply. RAM uses up a minimal amount of power.I will let you know that unless you arent satisfied with the actual performance of your laptop, adding more RAM to Vista will only increase the amount of RAM vista uses. Vista is pretty much gauranteed to use atleast %40 to %60 of your RAM regardless of how much you have. This is a good thing.RAM should not be ''free'' and should always remain in constant use. Vista caches your most frequently used programs into memory so they load up faster. It also releases those chached programs when another program requests more memory (games for example). Vista can go as low as 200-300 MB when a RAM hungry game is running.
