This is not what most of you are probably thinking. This is about the quality of the graphics produced not the performance.I have a 7900GS(nVidia) and a 9600pro (AMD). The 9600 offers smoothing of textures with transparency, I have found no such option with the 7900GS. (although one might exist) It is a shame that I can max everything out, but stuff that uses transparent textures (like tree brush) has jagged edges. It also comes into play when comparing the HD3870 and 8800GT in Crysis. Now, I know that the HD3870 supported DX10.1 while the 8800GT does not, but the 8800GT couldn't compare in image quality. Can the 8800GTS 512MB compare with the HD3870 visually in Crysis?I am coming to the conclusion that AMD cards are sacrificing performance for a better image.AMD vs nVidia
The newest ATi cards have better image quality than ANYTING nVidia currently has to offer. nVidia has the faster performance while ATi has the prettier picture. AMD vs nVidia
You might be onto something. So far, the only solid evidence was a comparison of screenshots for Crysis. To find solid evidence, why don't people with 8800GTs. 8800GTS 512MB's, and HD38**s post screen shots of their cards running different games, specifically Crysis, at max?
well its probably AMD but that is subjective though... some may feel that nvidia is better and others ATI...
I think this come down to personal taste and perception. I use a 8800GTX and a 2900PRO (oc'ed to XT speeds). While the GTX obviously performs better, I notice no difference between the two in ''picture quality''
yeah te image quality during crysis was huge, and only 2 FPS difference is amazing.
Cool, in the latest issue of Maximum PC, their cover story is this very issue. Graphics Throwdown Nvidia vs. ATI: A visual qualilty head to headThey have a sweet setup with identical machines side by side one with sli other with crossfire. 15 people were told to chose the best looking monitor for 3 diff categories game, hd vid, and dig phot. Ati won across the board, but not by much. Lots of people had no preference. Nowadays they are pretty much equal so ati people get off the high horse...i had to get down from mine.
For people talking about crysis read this.''We ran the SLI setup using the latest Nvidia drivers, version 169.09. For the rest of the Nvidia GPUs, we used the 169.04 drivers and changed the name of the Crysis executable to counteract the graphical downgrade that increased performance.''
So, it appears that AMD's HD38**s are faster than the 8800GT when it comes to DX10. They are quite a bit slower at DX9 games though. All in all, I wish I had gone AMD instead of my 7900GS. I don't like jagged edges. I will sacrifice res for 4xAA. I don't like that my 7900GS won't smooth textures with transparency. The only plus is that, with the OC, it is faster than AMD's competing X1950pro.
