Capping game frame rates at 60, can you ...

I just bought a shiny new 8800GT and many of my games are running so well that the frame rate is higher than the refresh rate of the monitor! This of course causes screen tearing, which I hate. Basically I want to cap the frame rate of everything at 60. I know about forcing Vsync, but that seems to lower my overall framerate, which I do not want. well i think you can use a console and some type of command, seriously i have a 8800gt and enabling vsync isnt sacrificing any performance, make sure you have the latest drivers too. but for steam you can use fps_max 60 in console, for other games... your going to need to search the net for themCapping game frame rates at 60, can you ...
In the games that support it, enabling triple buffering will increase your performance when you enable Vertical sync.
It boils down to what game you're playing. You can limit the framerate by either using a console command in-game, or modifying a .CFG file in the game's core folder.
all new games have vysnc in the options menu, i havn't come acroos a game which hasn't. so just enable vysnc.

then he should lower his refresh rate to 60 which he monitor should definetly support, im not sure if he understands that you only get tearing when you get framerates over your refresh rate so puttin vync on whatever fps your getting will stop tearing.

[/QUOTE]atm im on 75hz on my LCD so its not always 60hz but i think all LCDs can do 60hz for sure though.

Um... I have 60hz refresh on my LCD (I never mentioned anything in the original post). I do know about vsync, but it seems to lower my frame rate (e.g. without vsync i get crazy frame rates and tearing, with it on I get 60 but it drops to 30 sometimes where it didn't before). Anyway, thanks for the advice!
