I have been thinking about purchasing a new motherboard and processor so I can use the old ones on a different system. How much faster would this intel setup be vs my amd setup. And is Quad Core worth it yet?AMD:http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813128014http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103191Intel:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128073http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115017(on a side note will I have to reformat my HD when i get a new mobo?)0AMD vs Intel Setup
That Intel setup is much better than the AMD setup. AMD is good on a tighter budget, but it falls out of favor when spending a bit more money. And both those motherboards you picked out are terrible, by the by. They both use outdated and fairly crappy chipsets. Neither of them can support SLI beyond x8/x8, and neither of them have full and/or confirmed support for AMD and Intel's upcoming processors, making them mediocre choices at best.If you want a good, cheap AMD setup I'd look for something like the Gigabyte GA-MA770 DS3 motherboard and an Athlon X2 5000+ Black Edition chip. If you want a powerful Intel setup, stick with that Q6600, but pick up a decent P35 chipset board. AMD vs Intel Setup
This is it : For budget builds AMD will have the lead otherwise for higher range of CPU then Intel is the leader for sure.
About Quad core, honestly i think it worths for SSE4 applications or the hard ones but for normal usages or even for gaming its still worthless to me.
Dont forget that only 3~4 games Quad core shows the advantages against Dual core so I'll let you choose the best for you.

My advice is P35 mobo and E8400
