Anyways, looking purely at Newegg.com (since I don't know any other reputable reseller that carries notebooks), I've basically narrowed it down between these two models:
Toshiba X205-S9349
Advantages:
- HD-DVD ROM drive (DVD Burner) means I can see the proper HD releases of 300 and Transformers, along with most of the movies on both formats
- 17'' display (as opposed to 15'' for the Asus)
- Two more USB ports
- Intel Turbo Memory 1GB for additional cache to support readyBoost, etc. (assuming I stick with Vista :P)
- Full keyboard + numpad
- Two Hard drives for more storage space and (hopefully) be able to implement RAID 0 for even better I/O performance
- NVIDIA 8700M GT
- Better set of speakers with a subwoofer!
- 5-in-1 (as opposed to 4-in-1) card reader
- 802.11a/g/n wLAN adapter
Asus G1S-A1
Advantages:
- Faster CPU (2.2GHz) than the Toshiba (1.8GHz)
- CPU has more L2 Cache (4MB) over the Toshiba (2MB)
- Two-year warranty as opposed to the Toshiba's one-year
- (if I'm reading it right) it has one year of accidental damage protection
- With TurboCache, the 8600M GT in this can become a 512MB GPU, where the Toshiba is limited to only the 256MB it is already equipped with
- Higher Resolution display (1680x1050) matches what my current desktop is capable of
- Almost three pounds lighter
- It comes with a backpack to be able to take it with me to school
- eSATA port
- DVD burner supports LightScribe media labeling
So, if it were your money... which would you choose, and why? And if you wish to suggest another besides either of these... it must be $1500 or less, because I'd like to make sure I have enough to still get a couple of upgrades for my desktop, too. :PGame-worthy notebook for $1500 (or less) ...
If we somehow put all the advantages into one computer and replace that card to a 8800GTS 512mb , oh man what an awesome laptop *Drools* . Anywho i would go with the Asus , but i'm not sure.Game-worthy notebook for $1500 (or less) ...
I would go with the Toshiba. The Asus has a higher reso on a smaller panel. And, from experience, you really don't want a really high resolution on a small panel. You won't be able to read the text. Plus, higher resolution means more pixels to drive in games. It also has a better graphics solution, which is very important here.Yes, the cpu is 400MHz slower, but, if it were my money buying a gaming laptop, I would get the better gpu.
I'm thinking about buying that toshiba, i'm so glad i've seen your post.I agree, i would rather loose 400 Mhz and gain that awesome graphic experience.
