computer slowdown

i know that it may be the work of a virus :( but i want to try and see if there is another reason my comp has slown down shortly after getting a new video card.My first problem occurs right after a screen that tells me i can load my BIOS by pushing f2. a screen appears saying ''a harddrive problem has been detected press enter to continue''i do and everything is fine but when i click on my Username it takes like a few minutes to load up and let me do stuff. Itll load up to my desktop quickly, but then itd take like 3 minutes before i can actually get any programs to run (AIM takes about that long before asking me to sign in).My final problem is that my programs become less respondent then before, it loads some games slower and the cutscene for World in conflict when it shows the Sierra logo is choppy. and my sound is cackly and bad (ive tried multiple stereos so i know its my comp.Does anyone know what my problem may be? about a few weeks before, i asked this question and i was recomended to buy a new power supply unit which i did (went from either 250/350W to 650W. would this really be a virus or is there something else i can try? If its as simple as a virus, ill just wipe out everything :Pcomputer slowdown
It sounds like a hard drive problem, like it tells you. You should back everything up, then do a fresh install of your OS. If that doesn't fix anything it sounds like your HDD bit the dust and you'll need to buy a new one. computer slowdown
Run the windows error checking utility ( located within the hard drive properties same place the dedrag option is )Or you can just reformatt. Which is what i would do. Backup the most important stuff only to minimize the risk of moving a possible virus over to the new install. Also make sure after you formatt to confirm that everything is running spiffy before reinstalling anything. This will rule out a hardware fault of some kind.
ok thanks :P i think ill just completely reformat after the end of my schools semester (which is like next week after finals). The only really important thing on it is Team fortress 2 and its only cause it takes forever to intsall everything else installs FAST :Dmy comp works fine its just the sound and slower load times plus USB's arent working but ill try to reformat.
