Retail Q6600 w/ stock fan, or OEM Q6600 ...

Is it worth getting an aftermarket fan? The OEM Q6600 is about $20 cheaper than the retail Q6600, so I'd be paying about $30 and change more for the OEM + fan, not including thermal paste.I'm still not sure if I'm going to OC my future rig, but I'm pretty sure a Zalman 9500 or 9700 will at least look nicer in the case. :P Retail Q6600 w/ stock fan, or OEM Q6600 ...

i have a zalman it's decent if you want the best. buy an OEM of q6600 with G0 steeping with a tube of forumla 5 artic colling thermal paste and a V1 thermaltake.
If you have a choice between spending $30 on the stock fan or aftermarket, definitely get an aftermarket. It will look nicer and you'll have the option to overclock in the future if you want to. The aftermarket fan will give better cooling than the stock fan even at the stock speeds.
If you don't overclock the stock fun will be ok and is very quiet also
Is it possible to remove the stock fan if I eventually do decide to OC?
Is it possible to remove the stock fan if I eventually do decide to OC?
Definitely. You can swap out fans anytime. You will most likely have to remove the motherboard from the case and install a new bracket system for the new heatsink, which would be a pain however. And a new dose of thermal paste will be needed as well.

This is my first time actually building a PC from the ground up, so I think I'll just keep it simple, and tinker later.
New question: get the Q6600, or wait for the new Yorkfield CPUs? As I understand it, the Q9300 will be priced about the same (~$270), but will give better performance as well as a higher clock rate, and they'll be out in only another month or two.
